It’s Tuesday again. I can’t believe it. Time seems to be flying by lately, but this week I’ve found some minutes to answer these week’s questions. Don’t forget to head over to R&R after you’ve read this post.
My life’s far from perfect, but still I’m very content with it and most of my “perfect” moments happen in real life.
What’s the perfect meal?
Something where the whole family gathers and has a happy time chit-chatting. That could be a summer barbecue in the patio or a Christmas dinner. I think what’s more important than the food is the family.
What are the perfect pair of shoes?
For every day: ballerinas or sneakers
For going-out: some nice, but not too high high-heels
For working out: Running shoes obviously
For the beach: No shoes at all 😉
What is the perfect afternoon?
The sun shining, some nice breeze, sitting on the balcony with some ice-cream and a good book to read
What’s the perfect house?
A house that has lots of space, but still feels comfy. I’d say it’s a mixture of modern design and country. I’d love it to have a big kitchen and also a sunroom or a sunny living room.
What is the perfect outfit?
Again, for every day: some jeans and a shirt
For going out: a nice skirt or dress
For the beach a nice linen dress and a bikini
What’s the perfect wedding song?
I haven’t found that one yet, but we’re currently on the search.
What is the perfect job?
Can’t think of anything now…
What’s the perfect hairstyle?
I normally consider the hairstyle I’m wearing the “perfect hairstyle”. For the last couple of years that’s been shoulder long hair that I can either put up in a pony tail or just do any other kind of hairstyle with…
What’s the perfect music festival?
I’m not the mucis festival kind of person, so I don’t really know.
What’s the perfect day to yourself?
A day when I get up do some yoga, have a nice long breakfast, spend some time outside and let the day end with a glass of wine on the balcony…
This week’s questions are a summer theme. I LOVE summer themes, so here we go:
From your childhood, what do you miss most about summer vacation?
I miss most just getting up any time in the morning, getting dressed already in a swimsuit and head to the swimming pool immediately after breakfast. Lunch packed in a bad and knowing that I won’t go inside before it gets dark again.
The thing is, it’s not like I don’t have the time to do this any more, but that such days are getting rare weather-speaking. We seldomly have days where it’s warm enough in the morning to wear a swimsuit… Makes me sad, but I guess that’s the climate change.
Are you going anywhere on vacation this summer?
We haven’t anything planned yet, because I’ll be starting a new job in July and don’t know if I’ll be able to take some days off. But we have planned a short trip at the beginning of October.
What foods do you like to barbecue?
As I’m vegetarian I like to have grilled veggies or veggie burgers and potato salad as a side dish. Heavenly!
How do you celebrate the fourth of July?
4th of July isn’t a holiday here, so we usually don’t celebrate it. But I’ll have a cupcake or decorate the apartment a bit…
What’s your favorite beverage to drink in the summertime?
Apple juice with sparkling water. That’s a typical summer drink. The juice is sweet and the sparkling water is really refreshing on a hot afternoon!
What movie are you looking forward to seeing this summer?
I hope we’ll have a sunny and hot summer that won’t involve any going to the movies (which is clearly a rainy day activity for me). So shamelessly I have to admit that I don’t even know what movie is on this summer. – Oh wait, isn’t there a Harry Potter waiting? I might go to see this.
In the car: windows down or AC?
I’m the AC type. My boyfriend is the windows down type… So, wee’ll continuosly have a fight over which way to go.
Have you ever had a summer fling?
Oh, yes, while on vacation. Several times. I won’t say any more 😉
Do you wear sunscreen?
On the beach or at the swimming pool: yes. In every day life: no.
Do you have any favorite summertime activities?
Swimming under a blue sky, sitting on the balcony in the evening, listening to the sounds of summer, Eating fresh harvestet fruit or enjoying berries right from their plants. These are the things I’ll likely do mainly in summer.
When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
It’s normally the book I’m reading at that time – if I enjyo reading it. Other than that I’d recommend “Quattro Stagioni”, a book about a German journalist in Rome. It’s really funny!
Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron?
Both. I love to buy books. If I enter a bookstore be sure that I’ll come out with a book. I was raise like that 😉 But I also have a library membership where I’ll go and get books.
E-readers, yay or nay?
I LOVE the smell of books. It just has something relaxing… I don’t have anything against E-Readers, I think the fact that you can carry thousands of books is incredible, but it’s the smell that has kept me from buying one. That may soon change, though.
What was your favorite book as a child?
I LOVED the Ann of Green Gables series. And I also loved “Hanni and Nanni” a story about twin girls in a boarding school. It’s an English book, I think the original title is “St. Clare’s”.
If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
Can’t think of any at the moment.
What book would you love to see turned into a movie?
Actually, there is a book that I read and thought would make a great movie being filmed at the moment. It’s called the Tuesday women – a story about a group of women that go on a pilgrimage together.
What is your all-time favorite book?
There are many: The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby
How many books do you read at once?
What is your favorite book genre?
Classics. I read pretty much everything except chickflick. I hate that…
Which Harry Potter book is the best? Or haven’t you read them at all?
Uhm. I’d say Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix…
It’s Tuesday again… Don’t forget to head over to Roots&Rings and get to know all the other Ten on Tuesday posts…
If you work, do you drive to work or take public transportation?
I’m the one for public transport. That’s no problem around here, because we have an EXCELLENT transportation system. (I’m talking about a bus every 5-15 minutes) I have to admit that I quite like to go by public transport. You see so many different persons and things… Pretty entertaining!
How often do you get your haircut? Do you go to the same person every time?
It depends on my hair style. At the moment, I have long hair, so I’ll go two or three times a year. If I have a short haircut I’ll probably go more often…
Do you read the newspaper? If so, a hardcopy or the online version?
I read our local newspaper in the hardcopy version and a variety of national and international news online.
What is the best book you have read this year?
I’m currently reading “Tender is the night” by Scott F. Fitzgerald. It’s a great read if you like classics. Otherwise you might consider it plain boring…
What is the best movie you have seen this year?
Can you imagine. It’s April already and I haven’t been to the movies. And, there’s really nothing like “the best movie” on tv…
Do you tend to crave sweet or salty foods?
Both. Sometimes I need a bar of chocolate, sometimes I favor chips…
Do you eat breakfast every day? If so, what do you have?
Yes. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. In fact, I can count the times I haven’t had breakfast in my life with one hand. On weekdays I have a yoghurt, oatmeal, a cup of black tea and a glass of orange juice. On the weekend I’ll have pretzels or croissants instead of the oatmeal.
If you celebrate Easter, what Easter treat/candy are you most looking forward to?
We have delicious chocolate eggs that I absolutely love.
How late is “sleeping in” to you?
Something around 7 am. Yes. I get up around 6 on workdays and my body refuses to sleep any longer than 7-7.30 on weekends. I just HAVE to get up by that time.
Where are you going on your next vacation?
There are several things that are planned, but not fixed yet. We’re probably going to Italy for a week during summer and we’ll be on a trip to Hamburg in fall.
This week’s Ten on Tuesday is about dating… Should be fun! Want to joind? Head over to Roots&Rings and link yourself up!
What is your idea best date?
A date that involves nice food, good company, a bit of entertainment and lots of fun and laughing!
How long does it take you to get ready to go on a date?
Not much longer than getting ready under “normal conditions”. I might give a bit more attention to my hairstyle and my makeup, but anything that takes longer than 45 minutes stresses me out, so I try to keep it quick and simple!
What would you wear on the date?
Something I feel comfortable in. Else it would depend on the date, e.g. for a trip to the park I’ll wear sneaker, but if I go to the cinema/theater… I’ll wear some high heels.
If you are married, how often do you go on dates? If you are single, when was your last date?
I’m neither married nor single, but I’ll answer anyways ;-). We have dates on an irregular basis.
What was your worst date?
I don’t really remember any “bad dates”. I don’t know if I just forgot or if there weren’t any.
Do you/Did you kiss on your first date?
I did a couple of times, not always though.
If married, how long before you knew he/she was the one? If single, how long before you know if the person is marriage material?
I think that was at a quite early state, because it felt so different from the relationships I’d had before…
Do you prefer day dates or night dates?
I love both. I love going out at night, but I also enjoy day dates at the park or short trips…
How old were you when you first were allowed to date?
There was no age-limit my parents had. I guess it’s because I didn’t really think about dating until I was about 15 and even then I wasn’t that keen about dating. Just had a ton of other interests…
What is the most embarassing moment you have had on a date?
I can’t recall any embarassing moment from my side, but I guess there were some on the respective guys’ side, but I’m not gonna call them and ask 😉
Hello to a new week. It’s already Tuesday! Here are today’s questions and don’t forget to head over to Chelsea and join the fun!
How did your parents decide on your name?
I honestly don’t really know. I asked my mom once (a long time ago) and if I remember right (which is NOT very probable) they chose my name, because they liked it. It was pretty common in Germany during that time .
Do your initials (First, Middle, Last) spell out anything fun/funny?
No. A H L doesn’t make up much…
Did you take your middle name from childhood or did you take your maiden name as your middle name? (If unmarried, what do you plan to do?)
Uhm. I’ve got a second Christian name, so to say I’ve got 2 first names, but I’m using the second name only using for official stuff. If I get married one day I plan to keep my maiden name. I’m still contemplating whether I’ll take it as middle name and also get my boyfriend’s name, which would make many things easier or if I’ll just stick with my name… Nothing decided yet.
Are you or will you name your children thematically (ie. same first letter, all of same origin…)
Uhm. No. We were talking about baby names and found some that we really liked, but they were nothing themed… But later while looking at the names we realised that they’re pretty classical names with Roman or Greek origin.
Did you decide on baby names as a little girl? Did you stick to them or change your mind?
Yes and no. I’d give any new doll that I got the baby name I currently liked. I don’t like them any longer, but they’re nice memories, because normally they had something to do with women/men I admired.
Does your family have any names that have been passed down through generations?
Not really. My grandma would have preferred my brother to be named like my dad, but my mom thought this was very impractical. However part of my family owns farms and it’s been tradition in Germany that the one to inherit the farm is named after the father. So they do have the names that are passed down.
Do you look at the meaning of the name or just the name itself?
First I just look at the name itself, but I’ll later look at the meaning.
Do you name pets with human names (Sally, Henry) or with pet names (Fluffy, Mr. Bo Bo)?
My current dog is named “Chica”, that’s Spanish for “girl” (as she is a girl). Generally I prefer to give pet pet names. For future dogs I’m planning on “Keks” (cookie in German) and “Krumel” (crumb in German)
Are there any names that you have an affinity or dislike for based on a childhood experience/someone you once knew?
I have an affinity for my boyfriend’s name. I declared when I was around 10 that one day I’d get married to a guy with that name and I really will (I guess so).
What are some of your favorite names? Why?
At the moment I’m having a Swedish issue and I really like Lars, Lasse, Lina, Britta, Greta. I don’t think any of these names will be my kids, but I like them at the moment.
