With the Olympic Games not yet over a week the next event is already looming: The FIFA Soccer World Cup in South Africa. It’s still 100 days away, or one could say also, only 100 days.
As many of you, who regularly read my blog are Americans, I decided to start a new series regarding the World Cup. Throughout the next weeks I’ll post about the countries participating, the players (watch out, there are some HOT guys…), and the game itself.
Here are all the participating countries:
For Europe it’s: Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, England, Switzerland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy (the winner of 2006), Slovenia, Slovakia, Seria and Greece
The Americas are sending: USA, Mexico, Honduras, Brasil (record winner of 5 times), Paragua, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina
Africa has: Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ghana and South Africa
For the Pacific area it’s: North Korea, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand and Australia.
Like most international tournaments the World Championship is held every 4 years. Every country can apply to host the tournament and is randomly chosen. Germany hosted the Cup in 2006 and it was a huge blast. We had a really great summer then.
This year the tourmanent will be from June, 11 to July 11. Host this year is South Africa. There were a lot of rumors about problems with the infrastructure, stadiums, security issues, etc., but it seems that all’s well now and the country is prepared.
On Tuesday, the 100 days countdown started in Johannesburg. Be sure to follow and not miss anything…
